The next Real Food Community Market in Llandeilo – Saturday 28th July 10am – 3pm

The open-air food market in Llandeilo

The next Real Food Community Market is on Saturday July 28th at the White Horse Inn

The Black Mountain Food Hub (BMFH) is organising an all-food market in the centre of Llandeilo, in the courtyards of the White Horse Inn. The market will take place every last Saturday of the month from 10am to 3pm. The main aim of the market is to provide good quality food in a festive environment while supporting local businesses. The market is made possible by the hard work of the BMFH in cooperation with Simon Buckley, owner of the White Horse Inn. Additional support has been through an Awards for All lottery grant.

The BMFH is a Community Interest Company that promotes local food producers and a wholesome food culture free from chemicals and additives in the Towy Valley and hills area. Although the Food Hub already runs a weekly online farmers market, the hub is now expanding to have a live market only focused on food produce. A live market is is an effective way of celebrating real food and educate communities about healthy eating, who may otherwise not have access to the online market. The White Horse Inn is lending the hub their courtyard, with its central location it is ideal to serve more of the public and at the same time deliver a festive atmosphere to the event.

“The ‘Real’ in the Real Food Community Market refers to food that has been grown and reared by real people and not machines, food that has been through as little processing as possible and contains no unnecessary additives such as colourants, flavourings, preservatives and fillers like palm oil and soy lechitins which have an adverse impact on our health and the environment. We also encourage organic food grown without chemicals, but certification is not absolutely necessary as this can be expensive for small scale producers and farmers.” explains BMFH co-ordinator Candace Browne.

BMFH encourages local producers to get in touch if they would like to sell their produce at the market. The producers can choose whether to pay £5 or 15% of their market earnings for a stall.

We really hope the market will be a success and the community, shoppers and producers alike will use it as an opportunity to showcase their products and a place to buy real, unprocessed food that is grown, reared and produced here in the region. This is invigorating for our health as well as for our local economy.’’ says Sara Tommerup, Co-Director of the BMFH.

Saturday May 26th saw the launch of our Real Food Community Market and received excellent positive feedback, thank you to all who came to support the hub and our local producers. The next Market will be Saturday 30th June and starts at 10am and ends at 3 pm. The market is to take place every last Saturday of the month in the White horse Inn, Llandeilo. The market is run by the Black Mountain Food Hub, a local CIC that promotes local producers and healthy eating.
